Linda “Postie” Postenrieder was born & raised in Albuquerque, NM where she graduated with honors from Manzano High School. Linda received her nomination to the Naval Academy by Congressman Manuel Lujan and graduated with the great class of 1982 with a degree in Math (Operations Analysis).
Linda hit the fleet as a Surface Warfare Officer (SWO) and, after attending the SWO School in Newport Rhode Island, reported aboard the USS FRANK CABLE (AS 40) in Charleston, SC as the Auxiliaries Division Officer. While on the Cable, she also served as Second Division Officer and Assistant 1st Lieutenant. In 1985, Linda shifted into the Supply Corps and, after attending Supply Corps School in Athens, GA, reported to the USS DIXON (AS 37) in San Diego as the Food Service Officer. In 1987, Linda left the active duty ranks to pursue a high tech career in northern California.
During her high tech career, Linda’s work included machine vision application support at Cognex Corp, Unix software support at Pyramid Technology and Oracle Corp., call center management at Wind River Systems and Personic, Inc. Working as an independent contractor with her partner, Donna Hinshaw, at Pelican Associates, Linda discovered her artistic side. In 2003, She and Donna established Pelican Art Gallery & Custom Framing Studio in Petaluma, CA.
Inspired by our friends in uniform and the dedication of today’s midshipmen, Linda created a series of watercolor paintings titled the “Midshipmen Series”. The Midshipmen Series has been featured at the Midshipman Store at USNA. One of these paintings was selected as the logo image for the 2006 Celebration of 30 Years of Women at the Naval Academy. The original painting is in the permanent collection of the USNA Museum.
The Pelican Art Gallery was voted Best Framer in Sonoma County 2009 – 2011 and Best Gallery in Petaluma 2008 – 2012. In 2012, Donna and Linda decided to head in a new direction and the gallery was closed. Linda now expresses her artistic path with quilting.
Linda has served as a Blue & Gold Officer, San Francisco’s USNA Alumni Chapter Secretary & President, and as a member of the USNA Alumni Association Board of Trustees. She has been a member of the USNA Alumni Association and Foundation’s “President’s Circle.”
Linda now lives in Washington State where she & Donna enjoy bike riding, quilting, kayaking and connecting with other USNA alumni.
