Born and raised near Orlando, Florida, Kevin Deese graduated from the Naval Academy in 2014. An HIV-positive diagnosis the month before graduation meant disqualification for commissioning as a naval officer, which he continues to fight to this day in the court system. After graduation, Kevin worked as an Area Manager at Amazon and Strategy & Planning Manager at SIB Fixed Cost Reduction in Charleston, SC. In August 2017, Kevin began pursuing an MBA and MPP at the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management and Humphrey School of Public Affairs in Minneapolis. He was awarded Carlson's Sands Fellowship to work to combat unemployment and underemployment in the HIV+ community in the Twin Cities. Kevin is proud to serve on the Board of USNA Out as well as Clare Housing, a Minnesota nonprofit providing stable housing to people living with HIV. In his spare time, Kevin loves to sing in the Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus, play Stonewall Kickball, cheer on the Buffalo Bills and all Navy sports teams, reading up on the latest national and Minnesota political news, and exercising in the gym.
